DIY HOLIDAY WREATH

by Sanjay Singh | Nov 27, 2020 | DIY, Holidays, Home Decorating

Making a Holiday Wreath is simple with the correct supplies, seasonal embellishments, and an excitement for the holiday season. You can make a wreath with two basic techniques. You can wire materials to a metal form or apply them to a rounded straw or foam base. There are so many different types of wreaths so you can design it to fit your style!

Supplies Needed:

  • Wire
  • Craft glue
  • Work gloves
  • Floral Wire
  • Ribbon in pattern of your choice
  • Hot glue gun
  • Wire snips
  • Nails/hanging hooks

Wire Wreaths

Wire frames are the most versatile.  They are strong enough to hold materials like evergreen or fruits. For a thin wreath use a single-wire frame, for a lush looking wreath use a double-wire.

  1. Attach floral wire to the crossbar of a double wire wreath form of any shape.
  2. Lay a small bundle of greenery on the form, and wrap the wire tightly around the stems three times. Do not cut the wire. Add another bundle, overlapping the previous one by half. Wrap the wire around the stems. Continue adding bundles until you reach the starting point.
  3. Tuck the wire under the form, secure with a knot, and cut. When the entire form is covered, tie off the wire, leaving a few extra inches before cutting the end. To make a hanger, form the end of the wire into a loop and twist it around itself.
  4. Add Embellishments
    1. You can use clusters of holly, jingle bells, pinecones, fruits, etc.
    2. Add shimmer by spray painting a portion of the greenery.

How to Hang a Wreath on a Wall

Display your new wreath on your front door or as a statement on a wall. Create a floral wire loop. Hang the wreath on a sturdy nail or hook. To hang a wreath on a door without damaging the wood, you can suspend the wreath from the top of the door. To hang, cut a piece of ribbon long enough so that when the ribbon is doubled, the wreath will hang at the desired height. Loop the ribbon around the back of the wreath. Using ribbon, fold the edges over ½ inch and secure to the top of the door with a few flat, heavy duty thumb tacks.
